In Alabama, graphite generally occurs as flakes dispersed within the metamorphic rocks of the Piedmont section in the east-central part of the state. The mineral is particularly abundant in Clay, Coosa, and southeastern Chilton Counties, and the graphite-rich rocks within these counties form one of the largest graphite deposits in the United. MICA Mica is widely distributed throughout the Piedmont Plateau. It has been work- ed to a limited extent in Upson, Cherokee, Lumpkin, Union, Hall and Rabun coun- ties.
