Description Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' Medium-size tree with a regular, ovoid crown, forming a fairly broad and drooping ovoid when mature.

The tree was selected during a study into the heredity of autumn colours and resistance to leafhoppers. Acer rubrum 'Brandywine' (Red maple 'Brandywine') will reach a height of 10m and a spread of 5m after years.

Development: 'Brandywine' resulted from a cross of Acer rubrum 'October Glory' and A. rubrum 'Autumn Flame' by A.M. Townsend as part of a research project examining the inheritance of fall color and leafhopper resistance, and an effort to improve existing cultivars of red maple.
